Demonstrate CPR using a manikin
Identify when to place a casualty into the recovery position
Demonstrate how to place a casualty into the recovery position
Demonstrate continual monitoring of breathing whilst the casualty is in the recovery position
Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty who is experiencing a seizure
4. Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
Identify when a casualty is choking
Demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
5. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
Identify whether external bleeding is life threatening
Demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty with external bleeding*
*If working in a high risk environment then use of tourniquets and haemostatic agents can be taught.
6. Know how provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock

7. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty with: Small cuts, grazes, bruises, small splinters and nosebleeds
Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty with minor burns and scalds
Assessment
The assessment consists of an exam and practical assessments. The theory assessment consists of 15 multiple choice questions taken at the end of the day. Practical assessments will be continually assessed throughout the course, but the learner will specifically be required to demonstrate the following.
CPR and safe use of an AED
The treatment of an unconscious casualty
The treatment of a choking casualty
Wounds, bleeding and shock, plus optional extra of catastrophic bleeding
(If catastrophic haemorrhage management has been taught, the practical assessment of its management using tourniquets and specialist dressing will also be assessed)
Certification
The learner will receive a certificate on achieving the qualification.
The date of certification is based on the achievement of the final unit and the validity will be three years from that date.
